Domineque Ray was sent to death row in 1999 after being convicted of murdering 15-year-old Tiffany Harville during the course of a rape and a robbery. Tiffany and her mother lived in Selma, Alabama, and her mother left home one night for a work event. When she returned home the next day, no one had seen Tiffany, and the teen’s mother reported her missing.
According to court records, Ray came to the Harville home and offered to help Tiffany’s mom search for the teen and pass out fliers. The search for Tiffany’s body lasted for months, until Marcus D. Owden came forward and told police that he and Ray were involved in Tiffany’s killing. Read More ↓
Owden testified during the trial and said Ray knew Tiffany, and Ray wanted to find the teen and have sex with her. He said on July 15, 1995, he and Ray picked up Tiffany and took her to the community of Sardis. Owden testified the two men then raped Tiffany, slit her throat and took her clothes and purse. According to court records, Owden said the purse had about $6 inside—the same amount of cash Tiffany’s mom said she gave the teen before she left for work.
Court records state Ray confessed his role in the rape and slaying, but named Owden as the primary aggressor.
Autopsy reports showed the teen suffered 12 injuries to her skull that were consistent with stab wounds.
