Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, filmmaker, author and immigration rights activist Jose Antonio Vargas has joined its Advisory Board.
Vargas is the founder and a board member of Define American, a nonprofit organization he launched in 2011 that works across journalism, entertainment and other media to foster more nuanced storytelling about immigrant experiences. A former Washington Post reporter, Vargas was part of the team awarded the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting for its coverage of the Virginia Tech shootings. He is also an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and Tony-nominated theatrical producer and the author of the bestselling memoir “Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen.” His work across journalism, film and other forms of storytelling has focused extensively on immigration, identity and belonging in America.
The Marshall Project expanded its Advisory Board this summer, bringing together an extraordinary group of leaders from law, philanthropy, business, public policy, advocacy and media to help strengthen its reach and impact.
Vargas joins the Advisory Board, which has no governance responsibilities; its members provide strategic counsel, serve as ambassadors for The Marshall Project’s mission, and help the organization broaden its audience and connect with new partners and supporters.
