Reem Akkad

Managing Editor

I oversee The Marshall Project's newsroom with a focus on social, visual and innovative storytelling.

My Background

Before joining The Marshall Project, I spent a decade at The Washington Post, where I worked as a senior producer for original video, visual enterprise editor, senior international editor, and finally deputy head of visuals. The work I'm most proud of is the groundbreaking storytelling we did with interactive formats — some that were delightful, others that were heart-wrenching.

Before The Post, I spent eight years at Al Jazeera as a senior producer on Fault Lines, the network's investigative current affairs show.

I'm a Syrian-American journalist and fluent Arabic speaker. I hope to one day learn Spanish, too. In my free time, I love to read, write, journal and shop on Poshmark.

Contact Me About...

I want to hear about creative storytelling ideas, social collaborations and any tips on stories related to the criminal justice system.
