Our History
The Marshall Project - Jackson was established in October 2023 to support local media with investigative and data journalism about the criminal justice system. Our team draws support from The Marshall Project’s national team, which provides data analysis, investigative editing, multimedia assets, editorial design, and administrative and fundraising assistance.
Our mission is to produce in-depth, impactful journalism that pushes for a criminal justice system that is fair, transparent, effective and humane. Since our launch, The Marshall Project - Jackson has consistently delivered investigative journalism that has led to policy shifts and meaningful responses from those in positions of influence — demonstrating our commitment to stories with lasting impact.
The Marshall Project - Jackson is part of The Marshall Project’s local network.
The Marshall Project’s work in Mississippi is made possible through the generous financial support of The Just Trust and the Public Welfare Foundation.
