The Marshall Project is hiring a multimedia editor to create powerful visual journalism for our platforms.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented multi-tasker with experience assigning, editing and producing visual imagery at a news organization. He or she should be versed in web, mobile and social media formats.

An interest in all forms of digital storytelling, user experience and graphics is encouraged.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the newsroom, the commentary editor, and the president to create a range of visual features—including photography, documentary video, illustration, animation and more—for The Marshall Project

  • Orchestrate and manage photography and video for all stories and social platforms

  • Assign photographers, videographers and illustrators for long-form investigative and explanatory pieces

  • Oversee budget, licenses and relationships with wire photo agencies

  • Manage all photo research and rights procurement for art to accompany stories written by our reporters and freelance contributors

  • Edit, crop and color correct photographs, as needed

  • Communicate and maintain relationships, editorial expectations and agreed upon deliverables with partner news organizations

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong sense of news judgment, journalistic standards and visual storytelling

  • 3-5 years experience at a news organization

  • Expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Premier Pro, After Effects, Bridge and the rest of the Creative Suite
