Geraldine Sealey

Acting Editor in Chief

I lead the newsroom’s editorial strategy and daily operations, helping our team produce journalism that holds power to account and informs and engages communities. I’m involved in every part of our work — from developing stories to distribution.

My Background

I’ve spent more than 20 years editing stories that aim to make a difference — from deep investigations and narrative features to breaking news and ambitious enterprise. I joined The Marshall Project in 2017, after holding senior editorial roles at NBC News, Vocativ, Fusion, Salon, Marie Claire and Glamour. Over the years, I’ve worked on journalism honored with a Pulitzer Prize, several National Magazine Awards, a Peabody and more.

I’m a proud multi-platform journalist, with experience across newspapers, magazines, digital newsrooms, podcasts, documentaries, radio and TV. I care deeply about accuracy, fairness, and the power of storytelling to create change — and about building a newsroom where people feel supported and able to do their best work.

Outside of work, I’m a dog mom, a human mom, a devoted Mets fan, and an avid (if very amateur) native gardener.
